This is my 1894 sporter. I have taken a few deer with this rifle. This rifle came from the east coast. The workmanship on it was excellent but the metal and the stock both needed work. The buffalo horn fore end had been chewed by a rodent but was able to fix that also. I saw a picture of a sporter almost identical to this on this forum. It was a pic from Mike Petrov from 2010. It is almost a perfect twin to this rifle. Below that he mentions that the twin and another rifle were made by the same people but did not mention who those people were. Any help would be appreciated.

'arturo1113' - Welcome to the KCA Forum!

That is a mighty wonderful looking Krag "Sporting" rifle.

Close-up photos of any markings on action, barrel, or sights, may give some clues. It certainly looks 1st class and professionally done!

Stock profile is similar to "Peerless" stock, sold and utilized by Stoeger.

This rifle looks a lot like Townsend Whelens Krag rifle made by Fred Adolph. The front sight is the only thing that appears different.

Thanks BR for posting the pictures. I am getting a computer replaced and presently have limited means. Comparing pictures of the rifles it does appear to be done by the same person.

The checkering, the cheek piece, the oval and the general shape of the stock are identical as far as I can tell. The front sight is a King sight. Trying to figure out how to post multiple pics. Any help would be appreciated.

Also there are no markings inside the stock or on the action that would indicate the maker but I have never seen inletting that was done so perfectly.

Well, if the dots do in deed actually connect, the following is a link to the history of Fred Adolph.

Does anyone know who owns the Whelen Krag pictured above? I would love to compare them side by side in person.

I agree, I would have a hard time taking it out in the field, afraid I would get a scratch or ding.

Your Krag looks almost exactly like my 1898 with a peep sight located where the cut off lever was.  Can your Krag chamber multiple rounds or because of the peep sight located where it is has it become a single shot?  I just wrote a post about how the cut off works so that more than one round can be chambered by the bolt.
