new need help with recent purchase.

I just purchased a 1898 krag sporter. I though it was a carbine but turned out to be a cut down rifle. I want to turn it into a respectable looking carbine for personal enjoyment. I  need to find a stock to make it originalish.

any thoughts or opinions?

'jnida' - Welcome to the KCA Forum!

It looks like you picked up a fun altered Krag, useful for Hunting & Shooting.

More pictures would be enjoyed and will beget additional suggestions.

Take close detailed photos of markings, muzzle-area, and sights.

enjoy it as it is, you have a historical document just as it is, representative of our fathers and uncle's view of beauty in the 1950s.

No sense in making it what was not.

Enjoy!!

I agree that this is a nice looking Krag sporter. If it shoots well, you've got a winner! Test it out and see what it can do at the range. As many of us have found out with our own Krags, it doesn't have to have a perfect bore for it to shoot well.

Can you give us more pictures? We love to look at Krags of all styles and design.

As an additional thought, save your money that you might have planned to spend on restoring this one to buy an unaltered Krag carbine in correct military condition. It will cost more than this one probably did but you'll have a great investment you can shoot and preserve for the future.

Welcome to Krag-Land!

You mind if I add your rifle to the KCA serial number database?
