Krag No Drill Scope Mount vs ?

I’m gearing up to scope my sporterized Krag. I’m leaning towards the no-drill mount made by S&K. It’s around $100 and it’s not too unsightly. I can find no other mount that’s a no-drill, or even another kind of bolt on mount that requires drilling and tapping. Are these two mounts the only ones out there to choose from? Thanks for your input...

How do you like the long eye relief scope? One thing is for sure. That nice stock on that page is awesome!

The LER Scope takes a minute to get used to... but really, it poses no problems.  Remember, with a Krag, cases eject straight up, so receiver mounted scopes need to be offset, which could be worse than being LER.  I don't hunt, and I set it up for Bench Rest Cast Bullet matches... and it worked perfect for that!

Hi Roamin_Wade,

Here's some different configurations utilizing the Krag Haus short rail (3.25 inches).

If you purchase one don't do like I did and initially put the rail on backwards.

The rail is tapered to allow for the taper of the barrel.

I like the short rail because the holes match exactly with the Krag's rear sight holes, was easy to install and I was able to use it with my upper hand guard (not shown).

IMHO: the short rail meets MY needs but the long-rail seems to be more versatile and allows for better positioning of the scope.

The 'Kraghaus' long-eye relief scope-mount also allows the original Krag Safety-Lever to be used without modification.

Traditional scope placement on a Krag, even when the scope is off-set, prevents the 'Issue Safety-Lever being put on 'safe'. The Ocular Lens housing interferes with the lever being swung to the 'safe' position.

(One solution was to install and fit a Buehler Safety-Lever. This required alterations to the Krag action's Striker Mechanism).

The S&K does allow the use of the original safety.

My 1899 has a Nikon intermediate eye relief scope on a Kraghaus scope rail. I had to have one more hole drilled and tapped along with the 2 existing rear sight holes. Makes for a nice package.
