In another thread I was going on about a parts lot and putting a rifle together. In that lot came this bolt, it is slightly different from other examples I have. The safety or guide lug is different and there are no numbers on the handle. The gas hole is also almost directly opposite of the locking lug so it would be in a different position. I just want to select the best choice for use so I put this here thinking more folks would see it.

That's an early bolt from an 1892 rifle. You do not want to use it out of context. It is only correct with certain safeties, cocking pieces, and sleeves, depending on the number of the intended receiver.

FWIW - Good model 1892 Bolts go for a real premium ($125 and up).

I believe "Grandpa's Gun Parts" has one listed for $350. He has NOS model 1898 Bolts for $55.

Haven't looked a Ebay parts for a long time - see the infamous leather bayonet scabbard (aka picket pin holder) is still very much alive with the know-nothing crowd!

Thats quite a stroke for a bolt. I would rather trade it off for something I could use and see it to someone that needs it. I have a 96 receiver and an amateur project to fool with.

At 'Grandpa's Gun Parts' a NOS 1896 bolt sells for $65 and a new 1898 bolt for $55. He has 'parkerized' 1896 and 1898 bolts on sale .
(There is a link to him in the 'classifieds').

On a 'parts project' Krag, I'd try a "good" 'parkerized' model 1898 bolt at $25.

BTW - The 1898 bolts should work in a model 1896 receiver without a problem.
