Supply of Krags Exhausted

The Ordnance Salvage Board reports that the supply of Krag rifles, model 1898, has become exhausted. There is available, however, a supply of Krag rifles models 1894 and 1896, which may be substituted for the model 1898 rifle.
The Quartermaster Department reports that the supply of field glasses has become exhausted.
The sale of rifles and other ordnance equipment will be suspended from August 25th to September 30th. This suspension is necessary as regulations require that all sales be approved by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship and the Director of Civilian Marksmanship will be on duty at the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio, and therefore, will be unable to approve the requests to purchase supplies which are received in his office.
C. E. Stodter,
Colonel of Cavalry, Director

The Director of Civilian Marksmanship has been endeavoring to locate a supply of barrels for the Krag rifle and carbine in order to satisfy the demand for new barrels to replace those which have been worn out. The Ordnance Department has no new Krag rifle or carbine barrels on hand but is prepared to furnish a barrel for the Krag carbine made by modifying and rechambering the barrel for the model 1903 rifle. It is estimated that these can be furnished and fitted to a receiver sent in by the purchaser at a cost of not to exceed $5.00, if one thousand are ordered.
New barrels for the Krag rifle can be manufactured at a cost of $10.48 each, provided not less than one thousand are ordered. If demand for these barrels is sufficient to warrant their manufacture the matter will be taken up with the Ordnance Department.
