Guide line modified krag?

Have a spoterized krag #79213 on right side of the receiver it has a small straight line a gunsmith told me it is a guide line for original assembly, does that make sense? Thank Daveman.

I think you're referring to what's called an Index Mark.  Yes it was for assembly, tighten up an original Krag barrel until the marks on barrel and receiver line up and the front sight should be nice and vertical.
