Oddball Krag Markings - RITZ ?
May 17th, 2019 at 10:40pm
Print Post
Looking for any info on this Krag with an odd stamping "RITZ", on the stock & stock end plate?
It appears to be a model cut-down to Carbine length.
Anyone with ideas on origins, or History of this one?
If so, it would be appreciated.
Here are some details to ponder below, Thanks.
KRAG MARKINGS
Barrel Markings;
1-      “P”            [Stamped externally at barrel base near Chamber]
2-      “J”            [Small in physical size, near same area]
3-      No other visible markings.

Receiver Markings;
1-      Serial # Between 320,800 & 321,000

"RITZ" is probably the nickname of a previous civilian owner.

The "J" may indicate a post 1905 arsenal rebuild location.

The other marks mentioned sound like Proof, steel lot, sub-inspection & inspection stamps, and acceptance cartouche.

The "U" on the barrel-band is an assembly or orientation 'aid'. (The open end of the "U" points toward the muzzle).
