Not sure where to ask this. I want to change my front sight blade on my 1896 carbine. Original saddle ring. What size punch to remove pin?

The front-sight Pin is slightly tapered and should be driven from left to right.

Pin diameter is approximately .061 to .063".

Pin length is approximately .248 to .255".

A 'drift punch' tip area should be .060" or less in diameter.

I made a 'punch' from a cheap 'all metal' Jeweler's screwdriver, by grinding the tip 'flat'.

I use a plastic or copper mallet with my improvised 'punch'. Barrel and sight-base are supported on a wood block with a hole for Pin to move into.

(I lay the barreled-action on a bench, resting on the flat side of the magazine-gate. The barrel-muzzle is supported by the wood block and is relatively level).

It does not require much force. The Pin is relatively soft.

Shouldn't be that difficult to change this sight. Just go slow with puching it out and don't lose it. Hope the new sight works better.
