You can't trust the 'Dutch'

I believe in Loyalty. I like some things to stay the same.

You shop around for what you like, find it, and want to depend on it being and staying the same.

You want Hoppe's No. 9 to smell and clean the same, as when you started Shooting. You want your shooting data, for IMR-4895, to remain good and consistent from pound to pound, over decades.

I don't want to have to reinvent the wheel on a frequent basis ... too much work ... too many disappointments!

I like Beer ... Not all Beers! I despise IPA's! I have gone to some micro-breweries and been unable to find a product I like.

(I love Coffee ... but, I shun Starbucks. I don't like their coffee or the experience! I don't have a problem with Dunkin Donuts, Tim Horton's or Speedway).

I first encountered "Newcastle Brown Ale" in a Pub in Carlisle, England, in 1972. It was on Tap, (one of those long-levered old style British taps). The 'barkeep' pumped out a pint and the Ale looked Beautiful and tasted Good!

For years, I've bought Newcastle Brown Ale, in clear glass bottles, at the local grocery. It was imported from England, but, the price was reasonable.
I stock the refrigerator, for my Church's 'Men's Club'. I always had 'Newcastle' in "The Fridge" and introduced friends to its great taste.

Last year, the bottles started being marked - "Made in Holland". Heineken Brewing had bought the brand and was making it, but, the taste remained basically good and familiar.

Then, for about one month, Newcastle disappeared from local shelves. Last week, I saw it in the grocery and bought a 12-pack. The bottle was now brown. The label was changed. It was brewed in Chicago and some California town (I can't pronounce).

Last week, when I tried one, it tasted like an IPA or that a cat had peed in my beer!

Dang Heineken, You allowed a Chicago micro-brewery to change, reinvent, and ruin my favorite Beer!

This "Old Dog" has a new trick. I am going to start driving to Ohio to buy Yuengling "Black & Tan" and "Amber".

I also LOVE beer!  I'm not a fan of the micro brew, or of all these newfangled craft beers (I have no idea why anyone would want a beer called "Summer Shandy!").  Give me a good ole lager and I'm a happy camper.  When I was young, my favorite was Heileman's Old Style.  When I lived in New Zealand (two years with Antarctic Research Program, my last two years in the US Navy), we had a saying:  American Beer is like sex in a canoe - (bleep)ing close to water!  I started drinking DB Draught from the local Dominion Breweries.  As far as I'm concerned, this is the best tasting lager EVER!!!  Sadly, I can't drink beer, or any other alcohol anymore(I have liver disease).  I do miss it!

Butlersrangers, when I saw this thread I wondered what you had against Dutch people. Glad to see it is only something against an evil Dutch company and their American partner in crime.

Since we are on the subject of alcohol, is there any widely available authentic apple cider? Angry Orchard varies between apple juice with added alcohol to apple Koolaid  with alcohol. The closest I have come to what I think is authentic is Strongbow Artisan. It is a little cloudy with sediment in the bottom of the bottle that needs to be gently stirred up. Since I only drink a six pack a month during fall and winter I would like to get the best without wasting time and effort on something not so good.

Sure would have been nice having a nice cool NewCastle Brown Ale after fishing yesterday afternoon...it was a sizzling hot 75 degrees!

Stella Artois makes a nice tasting cidre...at least my wife thinks so.

For my taste, Berentzen produces a nice apple flavored liqueur.

Imagine how much more attractive a woman could be, if they made Hoppe's no. 9 perfume.

I’m afraid that I can’t contribute to this thread except to say that to me beer tastes and looks like the clydesdales just made it. I’ve never developed a taste for the stuff. Sorry, please don’t kick me out of the club, I’ve got plenty of guns, 3 Krags too and just bought a ‘02 Tj Jeep wrangler to fix up. Besides you guys need a DD right?

Hang this in your Jeep ... "DD".

(Capt. Frank, you can hang one ... or two ... on the next 'Lassie' that you might fancy)!

Don't fret, Baltimore...I'm right there with you. Just never got into the whole scene with many of my friends. I'm a second DD where ever one is needed!
