Interesting piece of history. I think the photo shows krag rifles with canvas reciever covers. This was called the last armed conflict between the U.S. army and American Indians. (You need to Login to view media files and links)

I believe this is the same battle. Ojibwe and Chippewa is the same. Your post has a photo that wasn't seen in the link below.-

I think both links are from the same battle also. I wish the photo had a little better detail. But it is over a 120 years old!
