Looking for a sporterized stock

Howdy all!

A member here - Stretch32, who's an officer (and F-18 Fighter Jockey) in the US Navy is looking for a stock.  He asked me to check around because his deployment requirements means he's rarely online.

Stretch is building a parts Krag for his sister to use for hunting, and is looking for a sporter stock, either cutdown or aftermarket.  He would prefer it to have a pistol grip piece attached if possible.  He's building a carbine length, complete with a new Criterion carbine barrel.  If anyone has an extra laying around that they don't mind parting with... please let me know, and I'll get the info to him.

Thanks very much.

I'll check The Dungeon in a bit. I believe I have a cut-down surplus to my needs. Will let you know.

Being he is a brown shoe this might be a bit old fashioned.  Done in 20-30's, needs a good home  Missing butt plate, left side modified for Lyman 48.  Pistol grip and lightening hole nicely done.

Yep... that's pretty much what he's looking for!  PM me if you can and we can discuss the details.  I can shoot him an email and put him in touch with you.

Thanks Joe

I do have a cut-down stock but I'd take HeyJoe's over mine!  Grin

Hi Paul,

Don't know how quickly/effort Stretch32 want's to put in this project but eBay has some nice offerings:

If he's looking for move-in-ready than HeyJoe's offering would be a nice way to go!

As a brown shoe, I appreciate vintage craftsmanship Smiley

HeyJoe,

That looks really nice. I’ve got your info, email on the way.

Stretch

Give me a shout if you ever get orders to Horn of Africa.  I'll by ya a cup of coffee.  It's kinda lonely here in KCA Det. 1. with no shooting of Krags and all.

Culp... you should remember Stretch.  He shot in the Roosevelt with us in 2017, you remember... the year you just showed up and surprised (scared?) the hell out of all of us!

Gents,

Making some progress on the rifle. I got a sporter stock from HeyJoe (thanks Sir) and some other parts from a buddy of mine. I bought a new Criterion Krag carbine barrel from the CMP as well.

I still need to reblue some parts along with the new barrel then have the barrel installed and finished reamed. Once that’s done I can assemble everything.

I do need two parts:

A Buehler low scope safety. If anyone has a spare they’d part with please let me know.

A Weaver N2 or N3 side scope mount to go on the receiver since it’s already drilled / tapped. Can someone provide input as to which one I need or which would work best? I was planning to use a 4 or 6 power vintage scope like a Lyman or Weaver if that helps

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes Sir.  Stretch is a fine man.  Pride of the Navy.  Too bad I don't any parts to contribute to the project.

And I don't want to take the thread down the rabbit hole and hear about it from Ned.

We'll want to see pics when you're done, Stretch.

Well, I’ve got almost everything I need to build a rifle (including a Buehler low scope safety). I need to find a lower barrel band / sling swivel and that’s it.

At this point, I need to find a place to hot blue some parts and someone to install my CBI barrel and finish ream it.

I’m not sure how long it will take me but I’ll post pictures once it’s done. My sister should be happy.
