These came from a good friends estate, figured I would say hello and share the pictures, I also picked up a beautiful condition 1900 marked Krag stock and a couple of 03 stocks as well.

'Pappy1600' - Welcome to the KCA Forum. I'm sorry for your loss of a good friend and fellow 'gun guy'. He obviously collected some neat stuff!

His 'Barracks Gun Racks' are similar to ones recently shown in an old photograph posted by 'Rcat7147'.

Your 'wood column' one looks like it held carbines and revolvers. The 'metal pipe' one was possibly for full length rifles.

Great detail! Thank you for sharing this information. Now, we can all build one or two and fill them!

I have taken the liberty of cropping your 'rack' photos, Rcat's, and another old barracks photo:

I've wanted to build one or more of these racks for a long time. Thanks for all the pictures to give me some design ideas.

I have enough garands, 03's ,Krags, to probably be close to filling at least one rack, I guess I have some more buying to do. The one rack is missing one of the rings, went back and checked today, no luck, it will be used as just a rifle rack for now, I doubt I will ever find another one.

They sure look neat when they are filled as we see in these pictures posted. I prefer the wooden ones over the metal racks. I also like to see the rifles stacked with the bolts on the outside. Looks much prouder than when they are backwards hiding the bolt and action.

I don't think I should restore them, I will repair the one that's apart for now.

Those racks are beautiful! I love the patina. If you have all the parts, that's great.

I would just reassemble and 'dust it off'. Add some Krag carbines and revolvers ... and a couple of old "Railway Locks" for security.

FWIW - Here is a simplified reproduction Barrack Rack at the Ft. Davis (Texas) National Historic Park.

It looks fairly do-able for the home craftsman and could be dimensioned for other arms.

Just the thing for 'The Man Cave"; envision it full of carbine length Krags!

Nice but too new looking.

I would leave them outside for a couple of years to get all weathered, rusty and develop a patina...just how I like my Krags. Cheesy

Looks like the room my 4 brothers and I slept in growing up...minus the rifles/stands and barrel of grog. Embarrassed

More barracks racks were identified by Mallory and Brophy:

A San Antonio Arsenal 'rotary' design, from 1895, holds 'trapdoor' carbines. (This design was apparently produced in some numbers at RIA).

1903 Springfield rifles are shown in rack designs labeled '1903' and '1908'.

The U.S. Navy ended up with lots of Krag rifles ..... this would be a nice "man cave" motif.

It would make a lovely pattern for some custom wallpaper!
