I was watching this rear sight just sold on ebay and had a small early bid on it.

Even I was surprised at the price that this M1896 Krag carbine rear sight sold for.

$638!!

They are getting harder and harder to find. Anyone here win this sight??

I could use a couple more myself but this was higher than I've paid for some entire Krags before!

You're right.

That's why I only put a small bid in on this because the slide was from a rifle sight and not the true carbine slide. It'll pass for most but it is not all there!

I don't think that matters to most, though.

I don't think anyone faked or misrepresented this carbine sight. This is a detail that only people who have read the reference books and looked at a lot of these are able to know all of the little nuances. I have seen a number of these M1896 carbine sights with the rifle slide. I have a M1901 carbine sight with a rifle slide that I have been looking to fix for a while. Just haven't found a "c" marked slide for it yet. But, I'm still looking. It still looks good on the M1899 carbine it is mounted on in the meantime.

So, this M1896 carbine sight is good but has an incorrect slide to be complete. I would categorize it as "incorrect" but not faked.

But, I could be wrong-the seller may have known and did not say so. Only he will know that!

But the price is too much for an incorrect sight. I think it's even high for an all correct one!
