Interesting Krag Ammo Reloading Ad 1900 era

From Shooting and Fishing 1905. There was serious competition between the ammunition companies for shooters to use factory loaded ammunition for target shooting. At the same time, companies like Ideal and Laflin and Rand promoted reloading tools, bullet molds, smokeless powder and other components. This old Laflin and Rand powder ad names the famous Ideal cast bullet mold for the Krag by number.

It sounds like these gentlemen got some nice performance out to 600 yards with some pioneering cast bullet designs.

Ideal Bullet #.308274 was the design of Sergt. Doyle, 71st N.Y. Regiment.

Interesting read: "The Latest Bullet (308274, 308279, 308280 and 308278)"

Just Google search:  ideal bullet 308274

Cat Man's 308274 is actually a 308284. The 308274 is plain base while 284 has a gas check.
I've got a 308274 Ideal mold ans shoot the bullets some. I've got five shot 100 yard groups under an inch at 1,400 fps. The 308284 will do just as well in my five Krags

Opp's, gas check version is the photo. It must have been the voices in my head channeling Harry Pope.

Years ago, a retired State Trooper told me to invest in precious metal, lead.
