SRS Request

Post by Texxut »

I took delivery of my first 1989 Krag-Jorgensen yesterday. The stock is dated JSA-1902 and a S/N 374869. Could someone who has access to the data, please check for any information on my .30-40 Krag?
Thanks in advance.
(new to the world of Krag-Jorgensen)
Will try to take some good pictures to post.

'Texxut' - Welcome to the KCA Forum!
You have a nice looking model 1898 Krag rifle. There is no listing for serial number 374869 in the SRS Data.
Only around 4% of the U.S. Krag serial numbers were actually found by researchers digging through old government documents.

Your rifle, 374869, was assembled around February, 1902, at Springfield Armory. It appears to be equipped with the model 1902 rear-sight.

Enjoy!

Butlersrangers< Thanks for checking for my rifle. & pestinmayer, thanks for the welcome,
I took some pictures yesterday, here are some. I'll get some better overall pics today.
Do these parts look to be original to the rifle or time frame?

"Texxut' - Your rifle looks very correct to me.

The original 'case' finish of the Krag receiver, side-plate, and magazine-gate, will often wear to a 'silvery' appearance.

The muzzle area of your barrel has the finish-wear, imparted by the wood 'cradles', built into the Ordnance Department shipping crates.
The barrel has a genuine brownish-blue patina.

I think you have a very honest Krag, produced in 1902, used and not abused. (The way I like them).

How is your bore condition?

Use and enjoy your Krag, "as is". Don't mess with the metal & wood finish. It will be easy to maintain and not lose its value.

Nice job with your photos!

I am very pleased with the rifle. The picture I saw of the rifle wasn't great, (I bought it sight un-seen), but I trust the outfit I bought it from and the description was through and accurate. Empire Arms in Florida.
The bore looks good to the naked eye. Good lands and grooves. With the bore scope it looks a little rough, but what would you expect from a 122 year old rifle (and lots of corrosive ammo to boot). I have Mosin Nagant rifles with worse bores, that shoot surprisingly well. Once I get some ammo rolled up, I'l hit the range and see what she'll do, no matter good or bad, I'll be excited to shoot a piece of history.
