By sheer chance  I bought a nice 96 original carbine yesterday #28759. I checked Mallory's list of "Rough Rider" carbines and  #28754 and 28751 are listed. I know "close only counts in horseshoes and grenades" BUT there is only data kown for one troop.Hopefully one day someone will find the serial#s for the other nine troops. Receiver is marked "1895" and stock is early short forearm but not cartouched.
