Hi my name is Eric I'm 23 years old and I just became the proud owner of a Krag. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little of the history of my Krag. It is marked model 1898 Springfield Armory SN 443907. The gun has been sporterized but I would like to know if it was a rifle or a carbine. It appears to be a carbine stock. What would be the correct rear sight for my model? Thanks in advance guys.

Hi Eric.  Welcome to the wonderful world of Krag ownership!

If possible, you should post some pictures of your new Krag.  The serial number is that of a rifle (others on this forum can confirm this).  Measure the barrel by dropping a cleaning rod down the barrel with the bolt closed.  Rifle barrels measure 30 inches from the bolt face to the muzzle.  Carbines measure 22.  if yours is less than 30, it has probably been cut down.  Some cutdowns (like mine) are 24 inches.
