Regards an 1899 Krag Carbine on one of the auction sites.
It has a 1901 cartouche and 1901 sight, but is advertised as the butt plate being brass, not steel. Can that be true?

Well, the seller's statement might be true [ Smiley ] but, if so, such a butt-plate would certainly not be original.
