It should be an 1896 carbine, assembled around April of 1896, probably late April as they had stock shortage at that time.  If it has a carbine sight on it still, that alone is probably worth way more than you paid for it.  Someone will check the number to see if it's in the SRS and you can see the differences between carbine and rifle sights in the photo section.  Get us some pics please!

'benwanna2': Although marked "1895", your Krag is considered a Model 1896 carbine. The receiver was manufactured in 1895, but, not made into a complete arm until 1896, as 'madsenshooter' indicated. U.S. Krags were not built and accepted for service in numerical order. Completed parts, like numbered receivers, seem to have gone into bins to be pulled out randomly as needed.

Your number, 29141, falls between Model 1896 carbines, #29128 (1st Cav. turned in 09/22/1900 and marked '1895') and #29152 (2nd Cav. turned in 03/30/1900), listed in Mallory's, "The Krag Rifle Story", 2nd Edition.

Pictures of your Krag would be interesting to KCA members and gain you better information as to its originality and value.

You did ask about parts differences between Models. (Simplified Answer - Model 1892 U.S. Krag morphed into Model 1896 Krag with numerous part changes and refinements. Model 1898 Krag action and identical Model 1899 carbine action saw major machining changes from Model 1896. Minor parts like screws, swivels, rifle barrel bands, rifle hand-guards, and sights will interchange. The Bolts and Barrels usually can interchange. Some parts will not interchange due to changes in receiver machining. Gun Stocks are different. A 'Correct Collectable' Krag will have quite specific parts one expects to see on it).
