GeneSC - That looks to be a handy Krag hunting rifle.  Someone 'cut-down' a U.S. Model 1898 Krag infantry rifle to carbine length and put a 1903 Springfield front-sight on the barrel. The Stock is a Commercial blank shaped in the Mannlicher style. Your Krag rear-sight is the model 1902 sight (rifle version).

No, it is not original, but a nice looking sporter.   I would think, as you say, that it is a good shooter and fun to shoot.

Thanks guys for the info about my Krag. Been wondering for years exactly what I had.
Anyone need a Krag 410 shotgun?  Smiley Grin

GeneSC - Maybe you could donate that 'Shotgun' to the local  Museum in Hell, Michigan, for a special display titled: "Bubba's Battery"!
