	Will an 1898 extractor fit and function properly in an 1892 bolt sleeve? I have an 1892 bolt and sleeve with the screw but no extractor. 1898 extractors are 20 bucks 1892 extractors are 100 bucks or more.

	Yes it will fit the sleeve, and, if the receiver in which you plan to use it has the pin notch, it will function just fine. If you are putting it into an original un-notched receiver, it will still function as an extractor, but it will not hold the bolt open. Do NOT notch the receiver to match the extractor if it does not already have one!!!!!!!!

No, this receiver had been upgraded to 1896 config long before I got my hands on it. Looks like I will be getting one of those 1898 extractors for 20 bucks, shipped. Thanks for the good info. 	That was a good one Dick! One of my 92/96s is without the notch, but it still holds the bolt back. It likely won't always though. I can get the bolt to go forward if I point the barrel down and tap on the butt of the rifle. The pin hasn't worn the receiver yet, but it's about through the parkerizing. The extractor is tightly fitted, like most everything on this particular rifle, which is likely why it holds the bolt back at all.
