Obviously the officer's headgear did not catch on!

(Correction - The photo is of Rough Riders at San Antonio, Texas. It is likely the two Colts are in 7X57mm).

Oh for find Great-Grandpa's end-of-the-world 1895 colt and twenty cases of ammo stash behind the false wall of the walk in closet.

You need to find the actuating mechanism for the WW1 Marlin gun and increase the rate of fire.  I have seen hats like the officer's for sale in various surplus sites.

Here is a model 1895 Colt 'potato digger' on a Naval mount and in 6mm USN, at N.Y.C. circa 1898.

Is that you, Paul? Mind the Flag Pole!

Fleet tug?  The USN was about to find out that their 6mm guns were outranged.

I read somewhere that the Rough Rider's Colt-Browning guns were purchased by the Tiffany family of NYC.  Not the fancy lamp guy, but his brother, from the same wealthy family.  William Tiffany was a Sgt and actually commanded the machine gun crews.

Lt. Parker, a regular, not a Rough Rider, commanded the Army's Gatling gun unit, & coordinated efforts with Sgt Tiffany.  Tiffany introduced Parker to TR. After TR became Pres, Parker became a frequent White House visitor, got to be a bird Col and was put in charge of making the Army's machine gun program worked.

Thanks for the background information, 'reincarnated'.

I'm attaching a version of the picture with individuals identified. Number 1 is William Tiffany.

The 'Dandy' with the stylish Sun-Helmet is not listed. (Maybe he was a 'Field Rep.' from Colt's Patent Firearms)?
