27,000 SNR carbine help

Found a local Krag in the 27,000 snr with '1895' on the receiver.  It's slightly Sporterized - with the 1901 carbine rear sight and humped top Handguard.   Barrel is carbine length though.  Is that in the USV range?   I have lots of questions.   Thanks.   Bill

'CuriousKrag' - Welcome to the KCA Forum.

41 Rough Rider carbines are in 27XXX range. If you give the full serial number of this Krag, someone can check if this model 1896 carbine (with 1895 date) is documented in Springfield Research Services (SRS) records.

No hit. The closest numbers to 27647 are, 27641 and 27652, both 1st USV Cav (06-20-98).

Smack in the middle of those two.   Interesting !  Because there is no hit, is it still possible this carbine was issued to that unit?

No!

1st USV Cav issued carbines are all documented and serial numbers and trooper a carbine was issued to are well known.

Krags were not manufactured, accepted into service, or issued to units in numerical order.

Being close, but, not documented in a unit's records, pretty much guarantees a Krag went to a different unit.

Thx.   Is it known then that only 41 Carbines were issued to the 1st USV?   Thx. Bill

Disregard - I just re-read the post (41 in the 27,000 range).
