'Jeffr65' - Welcome to the KCA Forum.

You appear to have a U.S model 1898 Krag infantry rifle that was 'cut-down' by civilians to make a handy 'Hunting' rifle.

The front-sight is a commercial sight (likely Redfield or Lyman).

Springfield Armory originally built your rifle around February or March, 1899. Your rear-sight is the model 1901 sight.

Howdy Jeffr65.  Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of Krags!

Just as Butlersrangers said, yours is a cutdown sporter.  Fear not... although there is no collectability, Krag sporters make excellent hunting rifles which are very accurate too!  They also are great for fun shooting and general plinking!  Take er' out and give it a little dance!

I agree 100% I had a cut down Norweigen(sp) Krag that was a blast.
