This interesting drawing, of U.S. Patent 429,811, shows a Krag which retains the 'Danish magazine-gate', but, has a knurled 'cocking-piece' and 'Mauser-type' safety on its bolt.

We are getting close to the design the U.S. Ordnance Department would recommend for adoption.

note- Inexplicably, Sheet #3 shows a Danish style bolt, without 'safety-lever' or knurled 'cocking-knob'.
