This Krag front barrel-band is being marketed as an "Engineer Krag Front-Band", because U.S. Engineers didn't have Bayonets.

I guess I didn't receive that memo.

It does appear someone wasted a nice model 1896 Krag front band, by carefully removing the bayonet lug and contouring & refinishing.

The band is the un-slotted type. The swivel screw appears to be a rear barrel-band swivel screw.

Thanks for posting this BR.  I decided to go for the rarity.  I like swapping these unslotted bands around to find the one that fits my 92/96s best.  Besides, if they ever go back to nickpicking wherein a rifle with a bayonet lug is part of the definition of a military arm, I'll have a dehorned one!

I am glad it is useful to you, madsenshooter. Any evidence of bayonet lug removal when you see it first hand?

Got it today.  I can see that the lug has indeed been removed.  Looking with a magnifying glass I can see the scratches of emery cloth, as expected.  For $16, suits me just fine.

I have a repro 92/96 full length stock that I need to make into a rifle before I kick off, it'll be ok there.
