	Hello everyone, I'm proud to say I finally found a beautiful Krag 1898 at the Allentown Fairgrounds Gun Show today! This is my first Krag, & I'm excited to learn about these rifles. Question: My serial number is 471XXX & the cartouche is stamped 1903...What month in 1903 might this rifle had been made? Thanks & I look forward to being a member of this forum!

	'DanBlue' - Welcome to the KCA Forum and congratulations on acquiring your model 1898 Krag, today. A Krag in the 471XXX range was likely assembled between August and October, 1903. Krags were not assembled in numerical order at Springfield Armory, so dating is an approximation. The receivers were completed, heat treated, and serial numbered. The finished receivers then were put into parts bins and randomly taken out for assembly into completed arms. How about posting some pictures of your 'new' rifle!

	I'm trying to "class" my C&R collection up, & I'm trying to start buying some cool US military rifles, & I've always loved the look of these Krags!! Found an honest dealer at the gun show who walked me through the things to look for when buying "authentic" Krags.. Stock is pretty much close to excellent but for a few scrapes & a couple of little dents..finish looks absolutely original..no cracks anywhere in the stock...Took it all apart last night & the metal is just about excellent except for tiny scratches here & there from years of handling..no rust anywhere. The bore is mirror bright with excellent rifling..there are a few pepper spots that look like very minor pitting in the middle of the bore but I'm really splitting hairs with that...It's pretty close to an excellent example of this awesome rifle in my opinion..Paid $650.00 out the door for this rifle. I'm relying on you experts to give me the good, bad & ugly about what I've bought so all honest feedback is very, very much appreciated!
