Chrome/Nickle stripping question

I stripped chrome/nickle finish from a project rifle with room temp stripper.
What remains is the copper wash from the plating process.
Does anyone have suggestions for removing the copper wash that remains?
Thanks

Thanks for the tip, Im going to try per-sulfate and stronger ammonia. I tried some ammonia based bore cleaner and was able to remove some but not all.
