Does anyone know the diameter of a 1902 rear sight hinge pin? Thanks.

'Suredan' - The 'leaf pin' for the 1902 Krag rear-sight measures approximately:

                       .115 inch diameter

                       .660 inch length

FWIW - I have made a number of these pins to salvage and complete model 1902 sights from parts. A slightly oversize finish nail works great. Original pins were made from soft steel.

I 'chuck up' the nail (with head cut off) in my electric hand drill and reduce the diameter as it spins with a file and finish with emery cloth.

When of a diameter that will enter the sight base, I cut the new pin to length. I dress both ends with file and emery cloth by again spinning pin in drill.

BTW - S&S firearms has original pins. They are cataloged as 1903 Springfield - Rod-Bayonet parts.

Butlersrangers, thanks for the prompt reply. I am a new member after lurking for a while. The knowledge base and willingness to assist newbies here is a complement to this forum. Surprised you can use a soft steel; that makes it super easy. Thanks again.
