Hi, new member from Mass. I have acquired a Springfield Krag 1898. Best bolt action I've ever used.

Best bolt action ever?! Oh the Humanity! Another one has been strickened with the affliction. Pass, Brother. You are in very good company with this group.
Welcome to the Forum. The 1898 is a great rifle as are all of the versions.
There are a couple of Comandments you need to be briefed on first.
I. Thou shall not have any non-krag in the presence of a Krag.
II. One Krag is good. Two is better.
III. Buy as much factory ammo as you can afford without selling blood, semen, the wife or kids.
IV. Keep your brass. (This usually involves saying the words "My precious" or some such wording over and over. Don't ask me how I know.)
V. Learn to reload.
VI. Tithe ten percent of you brass and ammo to the Church of the Mighty Krag. (Okay. I made that one up. It would violate the fourth Commandment)
VI. Share your Krag stories with the brethern.
VII. Never blasphene the names of Ole Herman Johannes Krag and Erik Jørgensen, peace be onto them.
VIII. Have as much fun shooting your rifle as humanly possible. Life is too short for sitting around eating sour mice for breakfast.
All the best,
Culpeper

And if it's in "As Issued" condition... practice and prepare, for the next Theodore Roosevelt Commemorative Rifle Match is just around the corner! The more KCA member Krags on the line, the better for all in the Krag World!

Here's a photo, combined both sides. It's a sporter, not a real carbine. I would like to find a better sporter stock, on this one the forearm was just cut off with a saw, I'd like to have a bit better forearm, so I'll be looking for a better stock. I've checked the serial number, it's manufactured in 1898 at Springfield. I live near the Springfield armory and visit there occasionally, they have a great collection. Anyway, thanks for the welcomes everybody!!
