Jenkins - You have only removed part of the Safety.

I copied your 'imgur' image. The Red Arrow points to the problem. That is a shaft or spindle that has separated from a modified or 'home-made' safety-lever. It is in a hole and needs to come out!

Put penetrating oil on that shaft. With Pliers try to wiggle it, try to turn it, and pull it straight back and out of the hole in the bolt-collar.

It is what's jamming your bolt from rotating. When it comes out, you should be able to rotate your bolt open.

When you have it out, take pictures of it and the lever that was attached to it. Post the pictures here so we can look at Bubba's work and curse his evil shenanigans! Good Luck Jenkins.

(p.s. - Our posts keep 'crossing'. Things are appearing disconnected and confusing).

my bolt is differnt then the one pictured. i dont have a safety beside the one where it wont let the firing pin move forward. so the lever i have is the ONLY safety piece i have on it.

There are two shafts:

The one attached to the Safety - point "A" - in my copy of your picture.

The second shaft - point "C" - for the Magazine Cut-Off in my copy of your picture. The cut-off shaft should be irrelevant to the 'Bolt Not Opening'.

In fact, the shaft from the Cut-Off was probably cut and left in place, on purpose, for smooth cartridge feed. The cut-off lever was removed so a Redfield 'peep' sight could be installed.

(On my last picture of my Krag, point "C" is covered by a Pacific 'peep-sight').

You might try pointing your UNLOADED Krag straight up vertically and tap lightly on the bolt-sleeve with a plastic mallet and see if anything drops out of the hole your safety use to occupy.

Ejector rusted to the Bolt - That's pretty much unheard off.

There must have been a lot of mischief going on in that Gun Safe!

Thanks for informing us of the outcome.

Ejector story sounds sort of bogus to me. When bolt is closed, the front of the ejector is down and out of the way, not preventing rotation. Since front end is down, rear end is up, into bolt slot, BUT, there is - of necessity - an angled profile to the slot which allows bolt rotation. I'd pull the sideplate, pull the pin, soak the receiver in solvent (for a couple of weeks if need be) then force the handle open, perhaps with a pipe 'cheater' - the ejector will break before the bolt does. There should not be any PHYSICAL blockage, only an acretion of rust, which the solvent should weaken enough to bust loose. If the untrhinkable happens, bolts and ejectors are not expensive, compared to putting another rifle back on the range.

well the ejector is stuck in the up position and is the problem. after smith looked at for about an hour while i was there there is nothing else it could have been. also found out my original safety was removed so it wasn't that. those would be the only two things holding from rotation. either way its getting taken care and will be in tip top shape clean and rust free when i get it back.
