Blue cartridge belt question

I’ve got a modern [ 1970ish] blue cotton belt that I bought when I started cas. I’m thinking it was for .45-70 but have been using it for .30-40 and lately 30-06 ala Lee Marvin in The Professionals. It’s long and would make a great bandolier. The loops are a little loose though, I’m wondering if I could gently wash this and if it would shrink the loops a little?

Marvin's looks like it might have been a bandelier.
