Came across this photo at an antique store Near Carterville IL yesterday. Original was about 18 x 14. Looks like mostly 1892's?

Looks like you're right about the 1892's since there appears to be cleaning rods under the barrel. Not seen this photo before, but the building behind the soldiers look very familiar.

When the army issued rifles back then did they issue mustaches to go with them? My other question was the age of these guys. Was the SAW fought primarily by old dudes?

Most, if not all, the Spanish American War dudes I knew, were old dudes.

Here is what I have from my list of The Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War with Spain 1898-1899.  I have 8117 men that have ages posted to the book in my spread sheet at the moment.  The average is 24.1 years.  I still have three or four regiments to go.

It is interesting that the tall 'lanky' officer in the middle, also has a rifle. His 'neck tabs' would give the identity of the unit.

The fine stripes, at the side-seam of the enlisted men's pants, seem unusual. No one is wearing leggings. Maybe it is 'Shooting Range Day'.

The building is kind of a generic brick barracks building.

(Michigan Volunteers, who went to Cuba during SAW, I believe, were age 21 and older).
