!896 Krag Carbine (Read 4427 times)

	I am a new member and just purchased a Model 1896 Carbine serial number 69652. Can someone help me dating it and possibly any history on it. Thanks John

	From my sources, it appears to have been built July,1897. But be patient, because there will be others to reply. If you want to know more than just a date, add some photos to this post and people will be able to tell you how original it is (military configuration). Many have been cut down and otherwise altered. This will reduce its value, but not necessary the enjoyment you will have owning it. I have a cut down rifle with a replacement barrel that was made at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1909 for a 1903 Springfied. Its still a treasure to me.

	There should be no doubt that that number is from an original carbine, but, that exact gun is not listed - the closest records I found were 69633 below and 69688 above.
