using Krag carbine stock on rifle barrel

Hi, new to this board. I have a springfield 1896 krag with a bastardized rifle stock and no upper hand guard. I can't seem to find a rifle stock at any type of reasonable price. How sacrilegious would it be to put a carbine stock and hand guard on it it. I really didn't want to sporterize it but which is worse? thanks for any feedback

Aside from it not being "right", there would be no harm, but if the barrel is still 30" it will look very strange, and, if you think rifle stocks are expensive, wait till you price carbine ones, unless of course you have one already?

BTW, Krags (unlike 1903s) did not have "upper" handguards, only lowers - from receiver to lower band.
