Photo showing muzzle area of my model 1899 Krag carbine.  Sight blade is marked with small 'c'.  Also in picture is a removable carbine front sight protector.

Model 1899 (and model 1898) carbines, with 1898, 1901, or 1902 carbine rear sights, used the same blade (.355 inch height).  I899 and 1898 carbines with a model 1896 carbine rear sight used a shorter .266 inch blade (and the 'c' is usually out of view).

BTW - The model 1898 Krag rifle front-sight blade is usually .413 inch height.

does this look right?  (trying to hone my eye).  It tapers down a bit more, but the base looks very similar.

kw64:  The front sight base and muzzle appear correct, but, the sight blade appears to be Brass and incorrectly shaped (???).

When you run across an anomaly like this brass blade in the front sight, how difficult is it to replace it with the proper steel blade?  Are blades available in the collector's market?

thanks

Krag front sight blade is easy to change.  Original rifle blades show up on ebay.  Original cabine blades are very hard to find.

Reproduction blades are available from S&S Firearms, Glendale, N.Y.
