this year will be my first year using the 30-40 krag. i plan on using cast boolits, 165gr(174gr actually) ranch dog, usiing h4198, rel 7 or varget.
the 22" barrel (sporterized) with open sights will go about 100-125 yards.  1800-1900fps ought to take the deer off its feet.

what kind of krag do you use? Smiley

I used to hunt with my 1898 sporter using factory Remington 180 grain SP loads.  I no longer hunt, so I use that sporter shooting cast in Cast Boolit competitions.  My loads are an NOE 311365 at 185 gr over 19.0 grains of Accurate 5744.

I shoot my 1898 full military Krag in CMP competitions every month, including the Nationals at Camp Perry.  My competition load is a Hornady or Sierra 220 gr RN jacketed over 40.0 grains of IMR 4350 and a CCI 250 Magnum primer... which is about as close as you can get to the original .30 US load.
