Help getting the Bolt back in my 1898

I just finished cold bluing my 1898 Springfield and have run into a problem. I'm looking for some guidance in getting the Bolt to fit back into the Receiver. The extractor is hanging up on the rear Bolt Guides. After about 3 hours of trying to figure it out, I thought I would ask you fellas. Embarrassed.  I took some pictures, but due to this being my first post, I'm not allowed to post them. Cry

I had a difficult time removing the bolt and installing it back into my 1899. This link helped quite a bit take a look.

Thanks a million Jim! Once I put the bolt into battery as described on the Video, it went in like butter!  Cheesy Cheesy

I was going to say it looks like you were installing it incorrectly from your first picture, but it sounds like you have it figured out.  Glad it is all good now.

How about some pictures of the finished product?

At my age I should have more empathy - and what I am about to say is NOT personal, but it is a shame that three hours were expended (apparently without result) on what could have taken way less than three minutes. Simply holding the uncocked bolt next to the receiver should have immediately shown what was wrong.

The one that really gets me though are the people who cannot find the serial number!!

We just don't seem to be able to figure things out for ourselves any more - THAT is the real point of my lament - NOT to point the finger at one individual beginner (which we ALL were at some point). My moment of 'bolt truth' was in 1952, in junior high school; getting bit on the fingers by having the bolt pop uncocked is what did it for me!

Sorry for the rant - flame away.
