1896 Carbine sights

What are they worth these days? I have a chance to buy a sporterized rifle that is wearing a righteous carbine sight. The gun is a bit overpriced for what it is, but I'm thinking the re-sale of the sight might bring the cost down to a level I can live with.

The value of a correct model 1896 carbine sight is going to be dependent on condition, however, on ebay auctions, they seem to bring $400 to $550, if memory serves me right.

Haven't bought or sold one in ages, but I cannot believe that - given what "sporters" go for, or should go for ($350 max) - that you could possibly go wrong. While the sights were once going for $700 or so; I'm sure they have slipped from that.

Do you need the sight, or were you going to resell it? Either way you should come out way ahead.

As an aside, Carl Weiss has had an 1898C sight (probably rarer than the 1896C, but with less specimens needing one) for sale on GB at $595 for quite some time with no takers.
