Rear Sight Questions

Found these 3 rear sights at a local gun shop in an RCBS die box labeled "KRAG Sites". The 1896 appeared to be in good shape but one of the 1901 sights was a rusty hulk and the other had been modified.  The modified 1901 had some pieces welded to the the base of the leaf and drift slide that prevented the actual slide from moving.  I have since cleaned them up and now trying to figure out what to do with them.  Any way the question I have is:

1. The two 1901 sights have a "C" on their upper bases but no where else.  The leafs are graduated from 100 to 2,333 and I believe used for carbine sights.  Can the leafs still be considered carbine leafs even though they don't have a "C" stamped on them by virtue of the graduations?

Local Boy: The two model 1901 sights are cabine sights.

A rifle leaf is only graduated to 20 and the inside edges of the leaf angle to the Left to move the slide to compensate for bullet drift.

Your carbine leaves are marked with a "C", on the left edge near the top. The inside edges of the leaf are parallel to the outside edge. There was no need to compensate for drift with the carbine.

Nice find!

Hey thanks butlersrangers for another set of eyes!  Didn't even seen the faint "C" on the leafs until you pointed it out.  Sorry for the big pics.  Thought I shrank them enough before posting.

You just needed to know where to look.

Your markings highlighted and a photo contrasting 1901 rifle & carbine slides.

Pretty amazing find!  The 1896 sight looks immaculate... and the complete 1901C looks great too.  As beat up as the other 1901C is, I'll bet it's still worth it's weight in gold!
