	Got a tech assist from the good son-in-law. and here are some pictures for critique. I've noted the same indent on the cocking piece wandering through the forum. is there any SRS hit on the serial number ? Joe

	Last pictures didn't have resolution to show markings; trying again. Serial is 30791. As far as I can tell its an honest early '86 carbine. I'll master this computer yet.

	'HeyJoe' - Your first pictures were rather small. I could not read your serial number or other markings. Your second batch of photos show a very nice carbine! Your number, 30791, is in one of the ranges for model 1896 carbines. It is not listed in the SRS data. It is bracketed by #30775 (96C - 04/11/1900 - 6th Cav. turned in) and #30792 (96C - 07/15/1922 - Raritan Arsenal - sold). Your 'cocking piece knob' looks like someone tried to unscrew it. Your model 1896 carbine rear-sight is an early ('high-hump') model.
