Watching an old rerun of Hogan's Heroes showed Sgt. Schultz with a Krag of some sort. 'Net postings opine that it was a Danish but I have been unable to get a better picture.

A U.S. Krag from a Hollywood 'prop' company.

IIRC - Actor John Banner, (Sgt. Schultz), was an Austrian Jewish refugee. The rest of his family perished in the 'Holocaust'.

The actor Werner Klemperer, who played 'Col. Klink', was from a refugee Jewish family. He was a U.S. Veteran.

I doubt either actor was totally comfortable with their 'Hogan's Heroes' roles.

U.S. Krags appear to have been the favored arm of the "TV Luftwaffe".

I don't know how true this is... but it has been said that John Banner had accepted the role with several conditions:  That he held no actual German weapons or articles;. That his uniform be inaccurate and unkempt (which would never have been tolerated in reality);  And finally, that he play Schultz as a total baffoon.  This all to be an insult to Nazis.  The Krag was supposedly to meet his conditions.

I think that is all revisionist 'Ball Bearings"!

It was comedy and they were comic actors, looking for work. TV and Hollywood did not have the 'Social Conscience' in 1965 - 1971, that gets 'lectured' to us in everything, now. (Thank God).

Sgt. Schultz was 'Everyman' in an impossible circumstance.  He was the "Stockholm Syndrome" in reverse. He totally identified with the POW's. He liked them as individuals and just wanted to belong and be Loved.
He did not have a mean bone in his well groomed, neat & clean uniformed, over-weight body. It was easy to 'Identify' with him. He was more trapped than the POWs.

.... and his Krag rifle was 'Every Gun'.

When I want historical authenticity, I watch the original movie version of the "Producers" - 'Spring Time for Hitler and Germany'.

Actor Ken Mars, as 'Franz Liebkind' (love child?), was one Konflicted Kraut!

LOL I don't think Kenneth Mars had a single role that didn't have me roaring with laughter... whether he was the constable in Young Frankenstein or the musicologist fraud in What's Up Doc!  The guy was comic genius!!!

And yes, John Banner/Sgt. Shultz WAS everyman, and just as lovable as Hogan himself!!!
