I saw a box of Grafs and son ammo at Cabelas and found the words "made under contract with Hornady" printed on it.
So I wonder if this stuff was made by Hornady also.

I will be willing to buy either ammo or brass if we can find someone to make it.

Now might be a good time to gang-up on Starline: their product line now includes .308 Winchester (a bottlenecked rifle case!), and if they are willing to make that, for which there is no shortage, AFAIK, they should be willing to make the .30-40 Krag, which definitely is in demand and short supply.

Also, I'm guessing that there are WAY more people loading for the .30-40 than ALL of the smaller (excluding the .35, which has always had a following in the North and East) Remington autos combined.

Contacting Starline might be a good idea at this point. I wrote Prvi Partizan last week and got this reply last night:
Dear Mr.,
Thank you for contacting our company, and also for your suggestions.
We would like to inform you that we will not manufacture 30/40 Krag, in the future, but we will consider your opinion in our development plan.
Best regards
PPU Team
Prvi Partizan A.D.
Starline may be our last hope...

I wrote Starline this morning:
Good Morning,
I am a long time shooter and reloader. I load for many different cartridges, and I use Starline for many of them, but there is one that is now almost impossible to find anymore - the venerable 30-40 Krag (formerly known as .30 Army or .30 USA). This round has existed for more than 120 years, and is still very much in demand. There are hundreds of people shooting this cartridge on a regular basis, including hunters, match shooters, and recreational shooters. I, along with dozens more compete with our original Krag rifles in registered Vintage Rifle Matches throughout the year. Presently, only Remington makes live ammo, and only on a very limited seasonal basis… and no one is making brass for sale. However, there is an enormous (and rapidly growing) demand for the cases.
Is there a possibility that Starline start producing 30-40 Krag brass for bulk sale? If so, this could be quite profitable as there are hundreds of shooters looking for it (I’d be good for several hundred rounds worth myself).
Thank you so very much for your time on this matter.
Very respectfully and with warm regards,
Paul Steinmayer
Let's see if they respone

Well FWIW I got a response from Captech / Jamison today after sending an email to them last weekend. Here is the reply:
"Hello Greg,
Sorry for the late response. We are currently running other products at this time, but we will certainly look into the possibility of running the 30-40 Krag. We understand the demand for it and would be happy to supply some to the public if we can. I can notify you if we do decide to produce some if you wish. Thank you for your interest in our business and we hope we can provide for you in the future."
Maybe all the requests are starting to add up and companies who can potentially produce Krag brass are starting to realize there may be a market.
I guess we'll see.

I'm new to the forum, but I'd like to get in on the brass group buy! The first time that I say and handled a 30/40 Krag I was 17 and the gunsmith that I befriended Hunted with one. He modified his, back in 1967 that was the norm for the average hunter in New England.

I am new to this Forum and looking for .30-40 brass. I would like to go in on a group buy if that would motivate the brass producers.

Also new to the forum (been searching around for ammo with no luck for a couple of months now) I would also be interested in getting in on a group buy of krag brass.
I don't intend to stay low on ammo for my Great Grandfathers unmodified rifle if I can help it....

Welcome to all of the new members.
At this point, we're trying to get some of the brass manufacturers to pony up to making us some 30-40 brass... but at this point, it's just talking/emailing.
Here's something everyone can do though to help with the ammo situation: Where ever you buy ammo and look for Krag ammo... start asking for it!!! Presently, only Remington makes 30-40 Krag ammo (180gr Core Lokt), and only seasonally. I am a firm believer that voices matter... and if people started asking in droves (such as at Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, Dicks Sporting Goods, Every mom & Pop gun shop... etc.), then these shops would be asking Remington when more ammo is coming. Eventually, Remington might get the hint that there is a demand for it and increase production! If Remington starts increasing production... then maybe Winchester would take notice and resume producing ammo and brass too. If nothing else, at least it gets people talking and that's never a bad thing!

FWIW - I emailed Federal Cartridge Company. Since they already load .303 British, I suggested they look at filling the vacuum for .30-40 Krag ammo & Brass.
